Focus, Focus, Focus. Less is now more…

The real estate tenet of location, location, location has a business counterpart: focus, focus, focus.

At first glance, industry giants Cisco, Microsoft, and Google might appear to be all over the map with their direction and emphasis. In fact, these corporations have a laser-focus on their products and their market. Attributed to Flickr user firemindCisco wants to own the network, Microsoft the desktop, and for Google, it’s the browser experience. By hiring the best people and implementing the best plan, they can execute with pin-point precision.

We launched eXpresso as a division of an existing company: SmartDB. The SmartDB products are tools for Oracle application and database conversions sold to very technical buyers. The SmartDB “infrastructure” and cash flow helped give us the support and time to prepare and develop eXpresso. But as both “products” continued to grow, we knew our resources and attention would become strained. We had to make a decision about our focus.

We were very fortune to find a new home for SmartDB products, customers and employees. Rocket Software is a company that focuses on tools for IT and they are the new owners of SmartDB. Rocket is eager to get into the Oracle space and they have the resources and the drive to grow SmartDB and expand the client base.

It’s always hard to make the decision to let go of something like SmartDB that has been so successful and is appreciated by its customers. But we’re pouring the proceeds of the sale into eXpresso. We now have a singular mission and clear path going forward: focus on eXpresso.
