Integrating Identity Services into eXpresso

Password and LoginKilling two birds with one stone is more than a good metaphor, it’s a relief. Recently, I discovered a new online identity service that addresses both personal and business challenges that I face… but hopefully not for much longer.

Like many of you, I personally use several online services daily for things ranging from banking and web conferencing to booking air travel and tracking website analytics. However, remembering the usernames and passwords for all these services is nearly impossible. So to help, I kept a secret (and ever-growing) list of passwords that I needed to sign into all these services. Who doesn’t, right?

On the business front, the ever increasing popularity of eXpresso’s online service for Microsoft Office file collaboration has prompted several SaaS Marketplaces and Industry Portals to express an interest in listing eXpresso as an available and trusted application. While these marketplaces and portals offer good marketing channels to us, they do present us with a product delivery challenge: how do we enable and maintain secure, trusted connections to all of them?

My research into finding a solution to this business challenge led me to discover an innovative new service provided by TriCipher called myOneLogin.  For consumers of online services, myOneLogin offers one secure login for all of your web apps, including eXpresso.  No more remembering or storing dozens of passwords, and no more worries about password theft.  For providers of online services such as eXpresso, myOneLogin provides an easy and secure federation service that makes eXpresso SAML compliant and allows us to pass an authenticated user to a partner application and automatically provision a user in our system if the user has already been authenticated by a trusted third party’s system.

We are in the process of becoming SAML compliant, so expect frequent updates from us regarding new marketplaces, portals, and web-content aggregators that trust eXpresso and want their users to have access to it.
